A native of Washington D.C., Stephen grew up in a rich musical environment. After completing his college studies in Choral Music, Choral Conducting, and Voice from The Hartt School of Music, Stephen opened his first private vocal studio in Connecticut in 1982. In four short years he joined the faculty of The Hartt School of Music Community Division. By 2001 he had successfully opened a thriving voice studio in Manhattan. Stephen has studied voice with William Diard, Samuel Gordon, Peter Harvey and NancyStokes-Milnes. In addition, he has coached with Joan Dornemann and Nico Castel from The Metropolitan Opera. He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and was the Regional Governor for the Northeast for The National Opera Association (NOA).


Stephen now resides in the Greater Phoenix area, most recently being on the adjunct voice faculty at Scottsdale Community College where he taught Diction for Singers, Acting for Singers as well as private voice. He is the Past-President of the Valley of the Sun chapter of The National Association of Teachers of Singing. He has been Administrative Director of Intermezzo Young Artists Program, and also The Elardo International Opera Competition. Stephen is the founder, artistic director and former CEO of several businesses, including Arizona Vocal Artists, a training program for singers of all levels.

Stephen’s students have been accepted to top music schools and universities, have won top prizes in vocal competitions, are singing in opera houses around the world, casting directors for HBO and have starred on stage and film.
