Richard has been a music teacher and performer in the Phoenix area since 2002. In his youth, he studied piano, guitar, drums, and percussion. As a percussionist Richard played with many groups including: Phoenix Symphony Guild Youth Orchestra, ASU Lyric Opera Theater, Human Mirror, and other rock and jazz ensembles. While at ASU he studied under Dom Moio, and Dr. Mark Sunkett, learning jazz, latin, and traditional West African drumming. As an adult Richard picked up the banjo, and has been exploring the many styles of banjo playing ever since.
In 2006 he formed the folk/Americana group Yourchestra, https://yourchestra.bandcamp.com
as a lead singer and banjo player. His interest in travel and world music led him to the study of classical Indian music, with 3 years of training in Hindustani vocal music from Phoenix Gharana. Richard is also a regular member of Ensemble De Soxna, which performs traditional drumming styles from Senegal West Africa. Receiving his Bachelor degree of music in music therapy from ASU, Richard is a board-certified music therapist who primarily works for children with autism spectrum disorder.
He currently teaches lessons in: Drumset, Percussion, Banjo, Guitar, Mandolin, Ukulele, Piano, Bass, and Voice.
