Classical guitar soloist, collaborator, and arranger Joshua is hailed for his love of music and his desire to share that love with others. Joshua expresses his versatility from traditional Baroque through Modern compositions, as well as arranging Popular music for solo guitar. He has performed with and learned from many virtuosos such as Roland Dyens, Ben Verdery, Paul O’Dette, Lynn McGrath & Jiji Kim; embracing their musical nuances in his performances.  Joshua began studying classical guitar with college guitar instructor legend Chuck Hulihan at the age of sixteen, placed in the finals as an Artist of Promise in 2013, and his Octet placed 1st in the ensemble portion of the same competition. In 2014, Joshua placed 1st as Soloist, and 2nd in Duo, also winning the 2014 Guitar Foundations of America Ensemble Competition with his Octet. Beginning his study at Oklahoma City University in 2015, he has studied under Prof. Matthew Denman, Kyle Patterson, Stephen Lochbaum, Celin, Lito, Celino, and Pepe Romero, as well as Dr. Lynn McGrath. Joshua currently Studies under Ji Yeon Kim, ASU’s professor of classical guitar, pursuing his Masters in Performance Pedagogy. Upon completing a recital in 2017, Dr. Lynn McGrath spoke on his performance. Matt's enthusiasm in teaching aspiring musicians stems from his youthful musical aspirations.  During his teenage years, he discovered an abiding passion for rock music. After convincing his parents to let him purchase an electric guitar and amplifier, he started writing original music and playing in an array of local groups. 

He is accomplished as a guitarist, keyboardist, and music educator. A classical pianist by training, he has studied with acclaimed concert artists Mark Neiwirth and Anna Polonsky, and is the first-prize winner of several regional and state classical piano competitions. 

In early 2019, he switched his primary instrument to the electric guitar, and began studying improvisation, songwriting, and tone under South African blues legend Dan Patlansky. Matt also began to write, gig, and record as a guitar player. He has been teaching since 2014, and enjoys sharing his love of music through his work sharing his talent with others.  

Drum-Lessons

Sam is a jazz drumset player and master teacher with an encouraging manner and excitement for teaching. Under the direction of Dom Moio and Lewis Nash, he graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance from Arizona State University. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree. Sam has had the great privilege of performing with both Dick Oatts and Jim McNeely, as well as both Harold Mabern and Joel Frahm. He’s also performed a number of times with Jane Monheit, Billy Stritch, Mike Kocour, Nick Manson, Eric Rasmussen, Jeff Libman and many others. He can be seen performing frequently around the Valley at an assortment of restaurants, jazz clubs and other events.

Sam has been teaching private lessons for several years and is excited to lead PMA’s premier drum class!  Sam has fun working with all age groups and is very intuitive at understanding the needs of each of his students. He believes in the importance of developing a strong technical foundation to be able to focus on enhancing musicality in the future. These topics include reading music, playing with good technique, and improving the player's feel for rhythms - each highly important for drummers. With Sam's wide range of musical experiences in styles such as Jazz, Big Band, Rock, Pop, Latin, Drumline, Percussion and Orchestra, he can help shape private lessons towards the interests of each individual student.

Maddie’s experience, passion and education in music therapy make her voice lessons a holistic experience for her students of any age and expertise. She believes that singing is more than hitting the right note at the right time.

She is able to utilize these specific therapeutic vocal principles in her voice lessons to provide a holistic experience catered to each student.

Her favorite it teaching musical theater, and is comfortable teaching other genres. Maddie enjoys teaching all ages and ability levels.

Allen received his master's degree in jazz guitar performance from Northern Illinois University. He studied with modern guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque. Since then, Allen plays professionally in Phoenix as a guitarist and bassist and performs: Jazz, Funk, R&B, Classical, Flamenco, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, and Blues.

Allen provides student-driven lessons with students learning practical music skills. He focuses on fundamentals and teaching song repertoire. With each song comes an understanding of technique, rhythm, melody, and ear training. He supports a relaxed environment and challenges students with specific goals.

Hannah received her bachelor’s degree in cello performance at the University of North Florida. She is a cello instructor, piano tuner, and chamber musician. She has over 15 years of musical experience and regularly performs in small and large ensembles with the Symphony of the Southwest and the Southwest Shakespeare Company. She has been teaching cello for over 5 years and is a current member of the Herberger String Quartet, who performs a range of classical and pop music at various venues in the Valley.

Lindsey started becoming passionate about her music journey in piano when she was 4 years old. Over the course of the next 15 years, she began playing for children’s classes, school choirs, church youth groups, and wherever else she could find to be involved. Lindsey was a competition finalist and scholarship recipient of the Southwestern Adventist University Music Festival in 2016. She became interested in the organ, eventually completing a bachelor's degree in organ performance at the Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, TX, in the studio of Dr. Devon Howard.

Lindsey was also a cellist in the Southwestern Symphony Orchestra, sang in the auditioned University Singers traveling choir, and served as a department student accompanist for a variety of instrumentalists, vocalists, and ensembles. She has traveled and performed with the University Singers throughout the United States and abroad, including in France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Spain, and Portugal. Most recently, Lindsey will be completing her master’s degree in organ performance at the Arizona State University, in the studio of Dr. Kimberly Marshall.

Lindsey sets herself apart from other instructors by focusing on individualized instruction that draws out inventive and innovative elements from each student. She believes music is the greatest magic of all and would love to help each student grow as an independent musician.

Carlos is a classically trained tenor and voice teacher from San Juan,

Puerto Rico. 

He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University. He has performed nationally and internationally with symphony orchestras and opera companies. As a voice teacher he has

experience in a variety of vocal styles (classical, musical theater,

mariachi, rock, pop) and teaching a wide range of ages and skill levels, in

group settings and private instruction.
