Joshua Kyle Stockam grew up in Southwest Missouri and began his musical studies at a young age on the piano. Joshua now holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Arizona State University in flute performance. As an avid performer, he is comfortable with many genres, from contemporary music that explores the edges of the flute’s capabilities to historically informed interpretations of music of the Baroque. At ASU, he has played for the university bands and orchestras, the Arizona Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Baroque Ensemble, and for the university’s opera productions. He currently serves as flutist for the Sustainable Symphony, based in Tempe, Arizona.
His primary teacher has been Dr. Elizabeth Buck and he has studied extensively with Viviana Cumplido, principal flute of the Phoenix Symphony. Throughout his career he has also studied with Amy Porter, Keith Underwood, Judith Mendenhall and Jim Walker.
Joshua has eight years of experience teaching the flute to players of many levels, including beginners, students in middle and high school, and adults.
